The Journey started

The Quran is the guiding scripture of about one fifth of the total population on earth. The death of Osama bin Laden inspired me to read the scripture to find out what is so much in the book which brainwashes many to fight for the book and the God it mentions, also on the contarary ,in the middle of all these terrorists who interpret koran in the way they like , there are others who call it a book of peace.  This made me confused as of how the same book can be peaceful and terrifying. It will be wrong to take sides before we actually read it, so I decided to read it chapter by chapter, each stanza. But unfortunately I do not know the language the Quran is originally written, and so  I am reading the translation which is available online in my local language. I will try to write commentries on each chapter. I hope I have the right to criticise the book as any other book, and I will frankly write what me as a non muslim feel when I read this book..

“In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.  [All] praise is [due] to Allah , Lord of the worlds – The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful, Sovereign of the Day of Recompense. It is You we worship and You we ask for help. Guide us to the straight path -The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.”
The quran starts with the name of the God. It calls him merciful, not once but four times in the first chapter. No problem in calling god merciful, but the last sentence confused me?  Why should a Merciful god be angry to the paths some have chosen?  With these confusions in mind I pass to next chapter. .
(The chapter two contains 286 verses. I will copy some verses which matters to me and my research…)
Believers,fake  believers and disbelievers
Second chapter defines the “beleivers” as those who follow the book viz quran. And the  “non beleivers”  and the “fake believers” are another category of people. The  “non beleivers” are defined as those who “defy truth” and “fake beleivers” are “reformers”. I think those who do not accept Quran are called “fake belivers”. These two categories of people as the book say, deserve the wrath of God, the allah.
The definition of “disbelievers” as given in the beginning of this chapter, somewhatsterrifies this stanza. According to hindu philosophy, for example,Bhagavad  Gita says God do not hate anyone, nor does he love anyone. So it is indeed a shock for me  to hear that those who disbelieve in Allah and the koranic way of worship are enemy to God. Is God an attention seeker? or is he so Cruel ?
Some other reference to disbelievers :
2/39 And those who disbelieve and deny Our signs – those will be companions of the Fire; they will abide therein eternally.”
2:113  Allah will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
2:121   And whoever disbelieves in it – it is they who are the losers.
2:126 whoever disbelieves – I will grant him enjoyment for a little; then I will force him to the punishment of the Fire, and wretched is the destination.”
2:161 Indeed, those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers – upon them will be the curse of Allah and of the angels and the people, all together.
2/211 And whoever exchanges the favor of Allah [for disbelief] after it has come to him – then indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
2/217 And whoever of you reverts from his religion [to disbelief] and dies while he is a disbeliever – for those, their deeds have become worthless in this world and the Hereafter, and those are the companions of the Fire, they will abide therein eternally.
2/216 Fighting has been enjoined upon you while it is hateful to you.
2/257 those who disbelieve – their allies are Taghut. They take them out of the light into darknesses. Those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.
2/276    Allah does not like every sinning disbeliever. And do not marry polytheistic women until they believe. And a believing slave woman is better than a polytheist, even though she might please you. And do not marry polytheistic men [to your women] until they believe. And a believing slave is better than a polytheist, even though he might please you.

Some genuine Doubts

“O my people, indeed you have wronged yourselves by your taking of the calf [for worship]. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is best for [all of] you in the sight of your Creator.””  An interesting information about the culture of the land that existed at the time the islam was originated. This verse says, people used to worship calfs(cows), as Go pooja that exist in India even today. The disappearence of the culture, thehindu culture from middle east has very relation to the origin and growth of Koran. Also the practice of “Cow slaughter” has a great relation with the hatred to that culture. Read these lines-“Moses said to his people, “Indeed, Allah commands you to slaughter a cow.” They said, “Do you take us in ridicule?” He said, “I seek refuge in Allah from being among the ignorant.”

And kill them wherever you overtake them and expel them from wherever they have expelled you, and fitnah is worse than killing. And do not fight them at al-Masjid al- Haram until they fight you there. But if they fight you, then kill them. Such is the recompense of the disbelievers.” The religion of peace prescribes revenge, it asks the followers to take revenge. And the same sentence can be misinterpreted to the violnce against non followers
